At Wednesday night's school board meeting the Annawan School District approved a Return to Learn Plan for the 2021-2022 school year. At this time, the plan will continue to follow the Governor's Executive Order 2021-18 that supports safe in-person learning and requires masks to be worn indoors by ALL students, staff, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status.
Students in the classroom setting do not require quarantine as long as both the positive case and the contact were consistently masked so the mask mandate will promote less students being quarantined. Vaccinated students who are not showing symptoms will not have to quarantine as well.
Contact tracing will still be used by the health department to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will be used inside the school building. The CDC defines a close contact as an individual not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or where either party was unmasked who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24 -hour period. The exception to quarantining will be if both parties were correctly wearing masks.
Full details of the Return to Learn Plan along with updated guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education will soon be available on our Annawan School District website documents page. This plan is fluid and subject to change based on updated state mandates and guidelines.
Thank you for your continued support as we prepare for a safe, healthy, and educational school year for all of our students!
