Land Use Workshop

Annawan High School hosted a Land Use and Soils Workshop for Illinois Agriculture Teachers/FFA Advisors on Tuesday, June 22.  Annawan Ag teacher, Mrs. Haley Gruber held the classroom portion of the workshop in the grade school gym and then the teachers went to a local farm where they could evaluate soil characteristics including slope, texture, and structure.  The presenter was former Annawan graduate, Scott Wiesbrook, who is a soil scientist in Illinois.  It was a great turnout as these agriculture teachers learned more about the changes in the Land Use Contest which is a contest that FFA members compete in each year.  Thank you to Albert Hulting, Liz Wied, and Mike Nordstrom for the use of their field, Ron DePauw for digging the pits, and to Scott Wiesbrook for presenting.  It was a fun and educational day for everyone involved.
